***Update to earlier post**
Our school team would like to share that Abigail Brown, who offers behavioral health support from SEAHRC, will be available for students during the lunch hours this week. Please let students know that Abigail is available to meet with students.
Afterschool Program is canceled for today, Wednesday, September 18th. We apologize for any inconvenience.
As we navigate through this period of grief and loss within our school community, we understand the need for a space to reflect, grieve, and find support.
To address this, we want to ensure everyone is aware that Brenda Thayer will be available to provide mental health support during the following times:
Friday, 9/20 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Monday, 9/23 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Tuesday, 9/24 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Wednesday, 9/25 from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM
These drop-in sessions are designed to offer a safe space for anyone who may need to talk, seek guidance, or simply sit with someone who can offer a listening ear. Please know that you are not alone, and there are resources available to help.
Dear Students, Families, and Staff,
It is with a heavy heart that I write this email to express how deeply we feel the loss of our friend, family member, and colleague. This is an incredibly difficult time for all of us, and I know many of you are feeling the weight of the loss of someone who meant so much to us all. Please know that we are here for each other, and we will walk through this together as a close and caring school community.
In the upcoming days, we will be offering times to meet with our school counselor, Brenda Thayer, who is available to provide support and a space to talk. Additionally, we will have access to community behavioral health support from SEARHC, with supports available to assist students and staff as we navigate these difficult emotions.
If any students need time to be with their families during this period, they are welcome to take an excused absence. Please don’t hesitate to take the time you or your child need to process and heal.
We are also exploring options such as early release and a shared gathering of students in the coming days to give everyone a chance to pause, reflect, and gather the strength and support needed. I will share more details about this as they become available.
As we move forward, let us lean on one another, listen to one another, and extend compassion to all who need it. Our school is a family, and together, we will find ways to honor the memory of someone who meant so much to us all.
Please reach out to me directly if you need anything at all: 907-518-4138.
With deep sympathy and support,

Good afternoon everyone! Due to the bad weather, we have decided to postpone the Kindness walk tomorrow. We will announce the new date soon!
We will still have our Crafting and registration event for the afterschool program from 3pm-5pm in the Elementary commons. All are welcome to come and make Christmas ornaments to send to Washington DC and represent Alaska!
This email will go to families related to an excused absence and an early release day tomorrow 9/11/24 to show support for Debbie Johnson.
*A Loving Community Announcement for Tomorrow 9/11/24*
Dear Kake School District Families,
I hope this message finds you surrounded by love and support. I am reaching out today with a heartfelt update regarding our beloved friend and colleague, Debbie, who has been bravely facing a battle with cancer. Tomorrow, she will be returning to Kake, and we want to create a space for our community to come together during this meaningful moment.
In recognition of the emotions and connections that this moment brings, we will be releasing school early tomorrow, September 11, 2024, at 12:30 PM, following lunch. This will provide our students, staff, and families with precious time to be there for one another, to share stories, and to reflect on the profound impact Debbie has had on our lives.
Additionally, our School Board has thoughtfully suggested that we offer an excused absence for any student whose family would like to meet her plane. This is a beautifully meaningful opportunity for families to come together in support of Debbie during this time. We encourage any signs of support including wearing school colors or making signs.
We invite you to join us in this act of love and solidarity as we stand together to support Debbie and her family. Your kindness, understanding, and compassion mean everything during times like these, and they truly highlight the strength of our Kake community.
Thank you for your continued support and for coming together in loving unity. If you have questions or need additional support, please feel free to reach out.
With warmest regards and heartfelt appreciation,
Dr. Anji Gallanos

24-25 NSLP School Meals free to all our Students

The Kake High School Awards event has been moved to Thursday at 1:00 p.m. It will still be held in the Dwayne Davies Gymnasium.
Yet, it is that time of year, and there is another reason for the entire Kake community to be so proud of our students. Congratulations to the Class of 2024!

Kake City School District has been informed of a statewide student walkout scheduled for today, April 4th, at 11:00 a.m. Social media posts promoting this event characterize it as a protest in response to the recent veto of SB 140 and the subsequent failure to override that veto.
Parents must understand that the school does not officially endorse or sponsor this walkout. KCSD neither encourages nor discourages student involvement in this activity.
We fully respect our students’ First Amendment rights to peaceful assembly. Students who choose to participate in the walkout will not face disciplinary action. As a district, we recognize and honor their advocacy.
However, unexcused absences resulting from the walkout will be treated as such, and standard consequences will apply.
Additionally, KCSD acknowledges the rights of school employees to engage in political activities during their time. Staff members will not participate in walkouts or protests while on duty and will maintain neutrality on political issues when interacting with students.
Our top priorities remain the safety of our students and the maintenance of a secure learning environment within each school community. We understand that some students may prefer to stay in class rather than participate in the walkout, and we strive to ensure that all students feel safe and respected, regardless of their choice.
