We are looking forward to celebrating Kake Day with the community! This is a wonderful opportunity to honor our heritage and participate in community events.
Here is the plan regarding student attendance:
Grades K-8 Families: We welcome families to release their students from school to attend the Kake Day events with you. Please coordinate with the school office regarding release procedures for your child.
Grades 9-12 Students: High school students have the opportunity to join the school in attending the community Kake Day event. Because this celebration is part of the school day, we strongly encourage all students in grades 9-12 to attend with the teachers who have made plans to take groups of students.
We look forward to a day of community and celebration!
Good morning families,
School will be open today. We understand that road conditions are icy, and we appreciate everyone taking extra care this morning.
The bus will run on its normal schedule. If families need additional time to get students to school safely, students will receive an excused tardy.
Please travel safely, and thank you for your patience and flexibility.
This survey is conducted in accordance with Alaska Statute AS 14.20.149 and the Kake Education Association (KEA) Agreement, both of which outline the public’s right to provide input as part of the educator evaluation process. While this feedback is one component of the evaluation system, only certified evaluators—those holding a Type B certificate or trained administrators under supervision of a Type B certified administrator—conduct formal evaluations.
KCSD is committed to maintaining the highest standards of privacy and confidentiality. All responses submitted through the survey are confidential, and individual submissions are viewed only by the Superintendent or a designated certified supervisor. Teachers do not receive individual response data; instead, they are provided with aggregated trend information so that no one respondent or small group can be identified. This includes protections for areas with low response numbers, such as feedback connected to specific academic groups like early readers or low readers.
To support accurate and ongoing feedback, the survey may be completed more than once during the survey window from December 1 through April 1. Participants may choose to include their name or email, or may respond entirely anonymously.
KCSD encourages all members of our community to take a few minutes to participate. Your input helps strengthen our classrooms, guide professional growth, and support positive outcomes for all students. A link to the survey and an accompanying FAQ can be found on our district website.
If you have specific concerns about a teacher or administrator, we also encourage you to reach out to them directly in addition to completing the survey.

After two days of epic snow in Kake, we’re happy to share that school will be open tomorrow, Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
Keeping up with plowing and shoveling truly became a community effort, and we are incredibly grateful. A huge thank you to the City of Kake team for their dedicated work, and special thanks to Adam, Benson, Edgar, and Michael for plowing our school lots and helping make this possible.
It was amazing to see our community and our kids come together to help one another during this snowy stretch. We appreciate everyone’s support, flexibility, and teamwork.
We look forward to seeing our students back at school and welcoming those happy faces tomorrow.

Thank you to our high school boys and girls basketball teams, along with Benson James and Michael Hadley, for helping with snow removal today. If you are able to volunteer with a shovel tomorrow, we would appreciate the help. Please stay safe.

Due to icy road conditions and continued snow in the forecast, transportation to and from school is not safe for students and families, including our bus route. Please stay safe, and we will share updates if conditions change.

This is to let you know that Kake City School District will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, December 10th, 2025. At this time, we do not have enough available teachers, paraprofessionals, or substitute staff to safely operate our school programs. We also continue to see a high number of student illnesses.
In making this decision, the district is following the guidance outlined in our KCSD Wellness Policy, which supports actions that protect student and staff health and ensure safe learning environments.
School will remain closed for the full day of 12/10/25. We appreciate your understanding as we work to keep our school community healthy and safe.
All extra-curricular activities are also cancelled in 12/10/25.
Due to unexpected staffing shortages and illness, our elementary students (K–6) will have an early release today (12/9/25) at 1:00 PM. Please make arrangements for pickup at that time.
IMPORTATN--Junior high and high school students will remain in school for the full day as scheduled.
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility.

Kake City School District is sharing an important update regarding our high school volleyball program. After reviewing the eligibility requirements, we have determined that the team will not attend the state tournament this year. This decision was made with careful thought, and we recognize it is disappointing for many of our students and families.
Participation in athletics requires students to meet district expectations that support both their academic success and their growth as teammates. These expectations are in place across all KCSD sports to help student-athletes stay on track in the classroom while representing our school with pride.
While eligibility played a role in this outcome, it is important to emphasize that successful athletic programs depend on full-team accountability. It does not matter how many students met eligibility requirements or how many did not. A team functions as a whole, and teammates must uphold expectations together, encourage one another, and ensure everyone is meeting academic responsibilities from the start of the season to the end. Supporting one another on and off the court is essential to the strength and success of any team.
We want to extend our sincere appreciation to the two coaches who supported our volleyball program this season. Their leadership, encouragement, and commitment to our students were evident every step of the way, and we are grateful for the time and energy they invested in our athletes. We also want to thank all KCSD coaches who volunteer their time and dedication throughout the year. Their ongoing support makes a tremendous difference in the lives of our students, both on and off the court.
As a district, we are committed to learning from this moment. I speak for our teachers and administrators when I say we will reflect on how we can better support our students academically and ensure strong systems are in place to help student-athletes uphold expectations. We will continue working to strengthen the academic foundation and accountability structures that support all of our programs' thriving.
Thank you for your understanding and for your continued support of our students. We remain committed to providing opportunities that reflect the pride, integrity, and values of Kake City School District.
