Not great news for our kids right before the holidays, but pink eye is going around in our schools. If your child has red eyes, please make sure to get them into the clinic. It is required that kids stay home for 48 hrs if they have pink eye..

The Annual Christmas Program will be December 19th. Flyers and information will come in a different post.
Students will have school on 12/20/24 until 2:00 pm. We will have an early release for students on that day.
There is no school 12/23 - 1/3.
Students will return to school on Monday January 6th, 2025.
Join the 21st CCLC After School Program on Saturday, December 14th, for our popular Read to Skate night! Come to the high school gym and learn some tips for reading with your kids, and then read a book and start skating!
Skates and helmets provided, but you are welcome to bring your own.
Children must attend with a responsible adult.

Good morning KCSD Families!
We are back to our regular after school program schedule for December! This week and next week we will have regular Monday-Thursday classes, and the final week, we will have a short week due to the Christmas program.
Check out the flyer for our fun classes this module! We have some new additions, like cheerleading and archery!
Also a reminder that our library study hours for 6th grade and up are 3pm-6 pm Mondays-Fridays.

Our Reading party was a smashing success! The students had lots of fun reading their favorite books and building some truly impressive forts in the library!
Just a reminder that there is no after school program today, as there is an early out! We will see you all December 2nd!

After school program will be in session today, Monday, November 25th!
We will have our regular academic time and snack, then at 4 pm, we will go to the library for a reading and blanket fort party!
The bus will run as usual to take students home as well!
The rest of the week there will be no program due to Thanksgiving Break!

**Ferry/Team/School updates**
HUGE thank you for those of you who donated dinner last night. The teams were well fed! Thank you to the Nest for hosting kids at Movie Night.
Updates on teams: Gustavus got out on a flight this morning. SISD will go out at 10:45.
Jori Grant and her students (who were on the ferry) are coming in on a flight this morning.
3rd Grade teacher Heea, is on the ferry with her family. We will have a substitute for her classroom. Many students and families were also on the ferry. We are so grateful everyone is safe. We are thinking of them and their families.
Early Dismissal Announcement – Tuesday, November 26th
In the spirit of gratitude and family, our district will release students early at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 26th, to allow everyone to spend more time with loved ones and embrace the holiday week. Good morning everyone! This week, half of our afterschool staff will be traveling to Fairbanks, Alaska for the Alaska After School Network Conference! It will be a wonderful time of meeting other after school educators and learning some new skills!
Because of this, and because of the volleyball tournament this week, we will not have after school programming this week.
We will start back up next week for Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving break! Hope to see your students then, and have a great week!

Kake School Students are Kind!
World Kindness Day is today! Wednesday November 13th
Today, the world joins together to celebrate World Kindness Day—a global reminder of how small acts of kindness can create a ripple effect that strengthens our connections to one another.

Highlighting our craft classes, This week, students in Scott Jackson's crafts classes are learning how to tan hides. Prior to this, our high school students worked along our preschool kids to create a sea otter pelt blanket.

We have two new jobs available at Kake City School District. A School Secretary (5.0 hrs a day for 12 months) and a part-time (25 hrs per week) Accounting Technician.
As a School Secretary: You’ll manage student records, coordinate events, support daily operations, and play a key role in communication and outreach.

Qualifications:
• Proficient in office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, PowerSchool) and digital communication tools.
• Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to responsibly handle confidential information.
• Skilled in multitasking in a fast-paced setting.
• Prior experience in a school office or administrative role preferred.

We are also seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Accounting Technician to join our team. This part-time, permanent role (25 hours/week) involves assisting the Business Manager with various accounting functions, including accounts payable, payroll, and fiscal reporting. Ideal candidates should have at least three years of experience in government accounting, proficiency in computerized accounting software, and strong skills in Microsoft Excel and Word. This position offers benefits, including PERS and leave, with a pay rate of $26.30 - $30.69 per hour, depending on experience.
Qualifications
1. Knowledge of fund accounting practices, budgeting, and payroll in a government setting.
2. A minimum of (3) years’ experience required.
3. Experience in accounting operations including general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, and other business functions.
4. Must be proficient in technology to include computerized accounting software and Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word.
5. Ability to prioritize workload and work independently.
6. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
7. Must be dependable.

We are excited to announce our first Read to Skate night for the year! Join us on Friday, November 15th from 7-9 pm in the high school gym for this family engagement event!
Bring your skates (or use our skates), and read a book with your family as the entry fee! We will have lots of fun books available to read, or you can bring your own book.
Reminder that children must attend with an adult, and the adult must stay during the event.

Join us Tonight, November 5th at 7 pm for the Fall Arts Showcase! Go vote at city hall, and then come up to the high school gym to enjoy some light refreshments, see some artwork, and listen to some live music by the choir!

Hello families,
We will have after school program today from 3pm-5pm for any students who would like to stay. We are sending our love and support to the community at this time, and understand if students choose not to attend as well.
Our community has faced another heartbreaking event that has deeply affected our students, their families, and many others. We want you to know that we are here to support each other through this challenging time. Our schools have partnered with local clergy—Joey Chang, Heather Witcher, and Fred Flye—who are ready to provide guidance and support to anyone in need. Benson James is also available to help connect families with additional resources; please don’t hesitate to reach out to him.
Additionally, our on-site mental health counselor, James Gallanos, will be in the school , (today 11/4 and Wednesday 11/6) library offering counseling support on a drop-in basis for students and families. If you would prefer to reach out to him directly, you are welcome to call the school, and we will gladly connect you.
We will continue to keep everyone informed, and our thoughts are with the children and families affected by this tragedy.
