Happy Sunday, Families!
I hope you are all enjoying our recent fall weather. It feels like we are fully in the swing of things here at school, and it has been wonderful seeing our students settle into their daily routines!
Here is what is happening across campus this week:
Highlights & Community Appreciation
Substitute Stars: We love our sub team! A big shout-out to Heather Witcher, Gerry Jones, and Rhonda Wooton for stepping up and keeping our classrooms running smoothly last week.
Cross Country: Safe travels and good luck to our Middle School Cross Country team! They head out Wednesday to Portage Bay, take the boat to Petersburg to compete, and then head back home. Thank you to Ashley Padgett and Adam Davis for supporting them on the trip (and extra thanks to Adam for scouting the road ahead of time to make sure conditions were safe!).
Important Academic & Campus Updates
MAP Testing Week: MAP testing starts this week. Cam is finalizing the testing schedule and will share details soon. Please help us by ensuring your students arrive at school on time and ready to test on their scheduled days. Good attendance helps us keep testing on track and minimizes the need for makeups!
Enhanced Campus Safety: We now have Ring cameras covering most areas of campus! A big thank you to Robin and our maintenance team for getting these installed to keep our students and staff secure.
Website Tips & Helpful Resources
Daily Lunch Menus: Did you know you can easily check what’s being served for lunch every day? Just head to our district website, click “Explore,” and then select “Dining.”
Free Online Live Tutoring: We want to remind families about the live, online tutoring service available to our students! Students can get real-time help with homework, test prep, and tricky concepts from qualified tutors. You can access it directly on our website or through this link: Online Tutoring Portal.
Schedules & Reminders for Families
Early Release – Friday, September 25th: Please note that Friday, September 25th is an early release day for students to allow for staff professional development. Please plan student pickup accordingly.
Morning Drop-Offs & Building Hours: School hours start at 8:15 AM for Middle/High School and 8:30 AM for Elementary. Students should not enter or wander the building before these times unless they are directly with a parent or have explicit permission from a teacher. If elementary students arrive early, please have them go straight to the cafeteria where morning supervision is provided.
October Student of the Month Theme: Our theme for October is “I toowú klatseen” (Strengthen Your Spirit). Talk with your kids at home about what this means: focusing on perseverance, making positive choices, and lifting others up.
Lingit Speakers Cohort: The Lingit Speakers Cohort will be in Kake through September 23rd at the Cannery Gathering Space.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in making this a great school year!
Warmly,
