The Kake City School District Board of Education will hold a Special Meeting this Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 6:00 PM.

How to Join: This meeting will be held online only. You can join the discussion via Google Meet at the following link: meet.google.com/rko-dbsa-hpc

Purpose of the Meeting: The Board will meet to discuss and consider whether the District will submit formal public comments regarding the current Federal Subsistence Management Program Scoping Review.

What is the Issue? The federal government is currently seeking input on how subsistence is managed on federal public lands and waters in Alaska. This review explores how decisions are made, the role of Regional Advisory Councils, and how rural subsistence priorities are maintained.

The Proposed Letter: During the meeting, the Board will review a proposed letter that discusses the relationship between subsistence access and the KCSD mission of "Tlingit heritage and values." The Board will deliberate on the contents of the letter and vote on whether to officially adopt and submit it as the District’s formal position.

Why it Matters: Public comments for this federal review are due by March 30th. We encourage community members to tune in to learn more about the proposed response and how this federal review may impact our region.
